Prhymal Rage has a deep and rich history. Originally intended to be the name of a 3-day concert in 2005, Prhymal Rage was created as a website to aid in the promotion of this event and, through momentum, a proposed series of continued hip-hop events in various cities starting with Ohio and Michigan.
At the time of inception, founder Doc Remedy was releasing music under the name 1 Mind Productions with its co-founder HellahMentals and various other artists, who had all been friends since high school in the greater Cleveland area.
The first event as Prhymal Rage was riddled with issues from the very start. Prhymal Rage was supposed to coincide with a large headliner we had been in negotiations with, and the deposit for the booking fee was paid to secure the dates several months in advance for a venue in Northern Michigan. Shortly after, the venue owner passed away, forcing his daughter to take over operations, and she also ran into a few roadblocks. The local authorities came in to re-assess the venue with regulations that came with the transfer of ownership, and the Fire Marshal set a new max occupancy for the venue that didn’t work for what we had initially planned.
The deposit for the headliner ($2,000) was already paid, borrowed from a then co-worker of Doc Remedy’s as an investment, and we had to either really lose out or reschedule the headliner to a new date and venue. Well, Doc Remedy learned a valuable lesson that day: to not negotiate without a legal team or a contract. The label representing the artist was unwilling to reschedule or refund any deposit made, and made it very clear that there was no contract to the transaction and we should “be careful who we do business with”, and yes that is a direct quote. No names will be mentioned because we have truly moved on from harboring hate, but nonetheless this is our history and part of our legacy to become better than some of our peers and predecessors in ways we CAN control.
So yes, the first Prhymal Rage event was an absolute dumpster fire. We scrambled together as many artists between Cleveland and Detroit as possible to keep the bill, dates, and website useful and only generated $1 profit total—which angered some artists who although none were told would be paid, obviously did NOT get paid. This $1 profit also did not factor the loss of the deposit, which still had to be paid back to Doc Remedy’s co-worker on his own accord with a second job. The name Prhymal Rage had to stick, because Doc Remedy was absolutely appalled and wanted to tear down such bold, dishonest business practices. Prhymal Rage became the name of events thrown because we had something to rage about!
Over the years, traction picked up locally in the greater Cleveland area and many other local artists networked within our space, which eventually phased out the use of 1 Mind Productions and transformed Prhymal Rage into the name of a collective of like-minded artists—mainly solo acts—who worked, performed, and operated together as a team, sharing resources and doubling down on releases and promo.
Prhymal Rage and its artists have been featured on many televised news outlets, countless magazine publications, festival line-ups, tours with larger artists, signed to small label deals, and worked with artists such as Prince Po, Ras Kass, Planet Asia, Canibus, Kurupt, Louis Logic, Copywrite, Illogic, Blueprint, Sha Stimuli, Mega Ran, iNTeLL (2nd generation Wu), Fashawn, Maylay Sparks, Carnage the Executioner, Ayok (Grind Mode), Tragedy Khadafi, E-40, Warpath, Vast Aire, and an entire impressive pile of other accolades, individually or shared.
We have always functioned like a record label to some degree but have never truly been a label, as each artist had no legal obligation to the team—until 2025 when our most recent transformation occurred. After running and operating Prhymal Rage as a website, promotional outlet, and collective for 20 years, our roster activity has changed, output has declined, and people grew older, forming new bonds and friendships and gaining new priorities in life with families, businesses, and other things that make life so busy.
So, the time has officially come to turn Prhymal Rage into a small boutique record label, and we are super eager to see what our next chapter brings! Without a dedicated roster, we have the ability to cherry-pick small projects and releases with artists from all different spaces and avenues, and continue to do what we have done from the very beginning: provide good hip-hop and become an artist-centric resource for developing and giving other artists tools to aid in their success. Buy some merch, check out the music, submit your music to be featured, download some sound kits, use our artist tools section for quick basic contracts, read our blog posts, and enjoy what we have built since 2005!
Welcome to our little niche corner of the internet, Prhymal Rage!
